HAYLA Lacrosse teams are affiliated with the YMCA and Lionheart Lacrosse. HAYLA teams play in the Western Maryland Youth Lacrosse Conference (WMYLC). The WMYLC has expanded it's footprint so we play teams from Martinsburg all the way to Olney, MD. We are a recreational program with teams that compete at an "A" level or "B" level. Players in our program are from all over the county (and even outside the county!)...it doesn't matter where you go to high school, you are welcome to participate in our program regardless of where you live or intend to go to high school.
Our affiliation with the YMCA affords us access to fields, equipment, insurance and other resources made available through YMCA programming. Further, if you are a YMCA member, participation fees in HAYLA lacrosse are reduced. We have also recently announced an alignment with Lionheart Lacrosse (www.lionheartlacrosse.com). Lionheart is local and offers players who aspire to play at higher levels the chance to take their game to the next level. As HAYLA is a rec program, we have many players who are now also playing club lacrosse and Lionheart offers easy access to some of the best coaches in the entire game of lacrosse. Lionheart coaches, right here in your back yard, have both coaching and playing experience from the high school level to professional lacrosse. We have already begun to introduce the Lionheart curriculum into our program. Lionheart shares an important philosophy that lacrosse fundamentals, education and playing for the love of the game are what will propel our youth into high school greatness and most importantly, it is possible to become a great lacrosse player while maintaining a high level of character and citizenship at the same time. Lionheart's boys coaching leadership includes the current USA U19 Men's indoor coach, current NLL indoor players, current and former collegiate players. Girl's leadership includes former collegiate players who are well-versed in teaching the youth game to our young ladies.
Lacrosse is an exciting sport combining the facets of others like hockey, basketball, soccer and football. As our sport is exploding across the country, we are committed to growing it here in Washington County as well. As a sport that utilizes speed, endurance, eye-hand coordination, individual skill and team skill, we are able to provide kids and parents with a great alternative to other sports. Not only can we make your kids great lacrosse players, we commit to making them good citizens as well through the game of Lacrosse. The main season of Lacrosse is Spring, however, camps, clinics and other smaller leagues can be played in the Summer, Fall and Winter as well.
Since our start in 2003, over one hundred players have moved on from HAYLA into the high school ranks, many of whom are or were the most impactful players on their teams. Some of these players, both boys and girls, have even moved on to the collegiate ranks currently playing at all divisions I, II and III. As of spring 2015, we have players currently playing, who have played or are committed to play at the following colleges & universities:
